YCT at Texas Tech held an informational session about the concealed carry of handguns Tuesday, October 5th, from 10 am to 2 pm in Texas Tech’s Free Speech zone.

Statewide, YCT has made passing Concealed Carry on Campus legislation its first priority. To further this objective, YCT’s Texas Tech chapter informed students about the current legislation barring concealed handguns from Texas universities, educated them about the legislation YCT desires to pass legalizing concealed carry on campus, and debunked many of the myths regarding the usage of handguns.

Texas legislation currently legalizes concealed carry of handguns with a proper license on public grounds, including university grounds, but criminalizes carrying them in university buildings. This policy essentially prohibits the student possession of guns on campus as they go from building to building for classes.

During the four-hour session, YCT at Tech collected over 100 signatures of students voicing support for Concealed Carry on Campus and generated lots of conversation and debate between members and students. Students were also treated to literature explaining the issue and the stance YCT takes on it.
